Thomas Tuchel Expresses Disappointment Over Home Crowd Support Following Emphatic Wales Victory.
Thomas Tuchel expressed his regret that the Three Lions team did not receive more backing from the Wembley fans during their commanding triumph over Wales on Thursday night.
The manager was pleased to see his side showcase their strong performance, with finishes from Rogers, Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the opening quarter deciding the game. Yet, he was displeased with the energy at the iconic venue.
“We had limited training days to get ready against a organized team and we did very well,” the coach remarked. “We could have been 5-0 up at half-time. We missed the fourth and fifth ones. The stadium was silent. There was no any energy back from the stands. Our team gave their all to win.”
“How much more can you give in the first quarter? We didn’t let them escape. If you hear just Wales fans for 30 minutes, it’s disappointing because the squad warranted greater backing today.”
“I maintain this statement. We cannot do more than leading three goals up in a derby. I would have wished for a little more support in periods where it is challenging.”
“In the second half, to cheer us on, there was a bit too much support for Wales. It could have helped us to regain energy, but it is what it is and so be it.”
Squad Decisions Justified by Display
Apart from potentially starting a dispute among fans, the manager also created controversy by omitting Jude Bellingham and Foden from his squad. Yet the move was validated by Rogers excelling in the No 10 position and getting his maiden goal for his country.
“He plays his game,” the head coach explained. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is fighting for his spot.”
Wales Manager Hopes for Improvement from Defeat
Craig Bellamy hopes that his team, who host a strong Belgian side in a key qualifying match on Monday, take lessons from their awful first-half display.
“That’s the reason I scheduled this game,” the manager commented. “I wanted to assess our current level. What are our ambitions? What is our identity? This performance gives me drive.”
Fitness Worry for Striker
Ollie Watkins was taken off at half-time after colliding with a goalpost and will be a doubt when England face Latvia in the Latvian capital in a qualifier on next week.
